What to Expect in an
Anxiety & Chronic Stress Session
Overview
Addressing Anxiety at Its Roots
When anxiety is chronic, the body has essentially learned to stay in a state of high alert. Sessions with Jarrah use SE to gently interrupt this pattern — not by fighting or suppressing the anxiety, but by helping the nervous system discover that it's safe to settle.
Sessions are 50–60 minutes. Jarrah will work at a pace that feels manageable and will never intentionally increase your anxiety. You're always in control.
Mapping Your Anxiety
In early sessions, Jarrah will spend time understanding how anxiety shows up for you specifically — in your body, your behaviour and your life. Where do you feel it? When is it worst? This mapping helps focus the work.
Finding Islands of Calm
Even highly anxious nervous systems have moments or places of relative ease. Jarrah will help you identify and amplify these — building an internal "resource" that can be returned to when activation rises. This is not bypassing; it's building capacity.
Working with Physical Symptoms
Anxiety lives in the body as tension, constriction, rapid heartbeat, shallow breath. Jarrah will guide gentle attention to these physical expressions and, using SE techniques, help the nervous system begin to release and reorganise them.
Expanding Your Window of Tolerance
Gradually, through consistent work, you'll find your system can tolerate more without tipping into overwhelm. This "widening" is the core outcome of SE for anxiety — not the absence of all stress, but a genuine increase in resilience.
Grounding & Integration
Each session ends with practical grounding — helping you feel settled in your body before you leave. Over time, these practices become part of how you navigate daily life, not just what happens in the therapy room.
